Phil Chen, internationally reknowned bassist, checks out some of his contributions to the exhibition. Phil was a member of Jimmy James and the Vagabonds back in 1963, the first Jamaican band to tour the U.K., and for many years was Rod Stewart's bass player. An avid collector, Chen has loaned the exhibit treasures from the ska period, including a drum head from the seminal Skatalites signed by founding members of the band including the late Roland Alphonso and Tommy McCook.
